Verdict: “The Cadillac of Bicycle GPS Computers”
The Garmin Edge 705 Bicycle GPS system has all the features that anyone could possibly want…and then some. Although expensive, you can use this GPS system as your personal fitness trainer, route planner, and graphical proof that you have conquered all the those hills.
The Garmin Edge 750 is truly the Cadillac of the cycling GPS category. This unit is the big brother of the popular Garmin Edge 605 and sports amazing GPS navigation functionality, turn-by-turn directions and very advanced route planning and ride data save capabilities. Read the rest of this entry »

Verdict: Solid Personal Trainer and Cycling Computer Combined
The Garmin Edge 305 is a very good “middle of the road” cycling computer with extensive and very customizable fitness training capabilities. We really like the combination of features and ease of use for a relatively good price.
All of the the Garmin Edge GPS computers are (in our opinion) the best little lightweight and sleek GPS-enabled cycling computers on the market.
When visiting my favorite outdoor store (REI, of course!), I head to the GPS counter to see if anything new has come out and to play with the Garmin GPS units. Although the picture of the Edge 305 looks pretty large on this page, they are much smaller in person - about the size of an ipod. Read the rest of this entry »

While on an adventure and exploration trip in the beautiful Black Hills in South Dakota, I came across a serious cyclist who was touring the United States via bicycle…and using a Garmin Bicycle GPS to keep his progress and heading.
Instead of the usual sunny weather, this week in the Black Hills has been foggy and raining steadily. I could hardly find my way with my car and a map. This poor elderly gentleman was on his fully loaded touring bike - by himself - in the pouring rain. Read the rest of this entry »

Verdict: “Good Basic Bike GPS Computer for less than $100“
We like the simplicity of the Atech GPS design…reminds us of the old days when a basic speedometer was all you needed on the bike. If you are not into paying $300-$600 for a fancy Garmin unit (which could also buy you an extra bike), this may be the unit for you.
I like to think of the Atech Bike GPS navigational computer as a super charged GPS-enabled bicycle computer. This slightly oversized GPS bicycle computer mounts on to standard one inch handlebars, providing more navigation functionality than any typical cycling computer can do. Read the rest of this entry »

You Don’t Have to Spend Big Bucks on Bike GPS
You actually don’t have to buy a dedicated bicycle GPS computer to get the benefits of using GPS technology with your road or mountain biking. Although bike GPS devices provide the most functionality, there are some cheaper and multi-purpose solutions as well.
For your road or mountain bike, there are basically three good options for you in today’s market. You can carry a handheld GPS in your pocket, strap on a GPS watch, or go all the way with a dedicated bicycle GPS receiver. There are advantages and disadvantages to each selection, and we will go over this in the following sections. Read the rest of this entry »

A Bike GPS Computer Can Change Your Whole Cycling Experience
A bicycle GPS receiver is a new breed of GPS units that target the needs of both recreational and competitive cyclists. I remember when I got my first digital cycling computer and thought it was the coolest thing to hit bikes since carbon fiber.
Well, the days of the boring old cycling computers are may be nearing an end as manufacturers like Garmin have integrated GPS navigation features into cycling and fitness computers. The result is an astounding 3D virtual tracking of where you have ridden and where you are going. Read the rest of this entry »

A GPS Bike Computer Can Seriously Expand Your View of Cycling
In the old days, we kept training logs for our running, cycling and other adventures. When I was a kid, I had my trusty training log, detailing out where and when I ran and rode my rather clunky road bike. According to the magazines, if you did not have a training log, you were not a serious athlete.
To be honest, I never did a very good job at logging each of my riding adventures. I was usually too high on endorphines to write much. Then, the digital cycling computer was introduced, which captured your distance, max speed, average speed, etc. I thought that was great, until the GPS bicycle computers were introduced. Wow! A “Virtual Training Partner” Helps Keep You on Pace
The Garmin GPS watches have a feature called the “Virtual Partner”, which allows you to program in pacing information directly into the GPS watch before heading out on your training run or ride.
As you move through your course, the watch then lets you know at any time, using GPS tracking and the GPS watch computer, whether you are ahead or behind of your virtual training partner. The image on the left is from the Garmin Edge Bike Computer.
I like the easy-to-read graphic repesentation of you and your competition. When I am in the middle of a tough ride, the last thing I want to do is try to calculate my pace in my brain. It is hard enough to use my brain to stay on the road or trail.
